Mr Michael Jones

Accompanist

The Musical Team Of Con Voce

 

 

A fluent Welsh speaker, born and raised in Aberystwyth, Michael has had a varied musical career.

 

For many years he was musical director for the Parish of Aberystwyth where his duties included conducting, composing and arranging. 

 

After graduating in music from the University in his hometown in 1987, Michael accepted a place at the Welsh College of Music and Drama to study accompaniment with Janet Massocchi. 

 

Following a brief return to Aberyswyth to gain a teaching qualification, he again moved south to teach at

Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Aberdar.

 

Michael maintained his involvement with music when appointed as deputy accompanist to the Cwmbach Male Choir in 1982, becoming their deputy conductor in 1997 and conductor in 2002.

 

In 1995 he was invited by “The Colstars” to be accompanist for their production of “Irene”, the following year he was appointed Musical Director and has remained in the position ever since.

 

Michael is also the conductor of the Welsh medium ladies choir “Cytgord”.

Mr Jonathan Gulliford

MA, L.R.A.M, A.R.C.M, L.T.C.L

 

Jonathan was born in Cilfynydd and educated at Pontypridd Grammar School for Boys.

He read music at the University of East Anglia, Norwich during which time he studied the Pianoforte with David Parkhouse a Professor at the Royal College of Music.

At Durham University, where he trained as a teacher, Jonathan was awarded a Choral Scholarship.

Jonathan began his teaching career in 1977 at Afon Tâf High School in Merthyr Tydfil and has been the school’s Head of Music since 1980.

He has spent the last eighteen years as Musical Director for Côr Meibion Pontypridd, and prior to that an accompanist with them for ten years.

Jonathan has accompanied many nationally acclaimed artists over the years and has worked with such choirs as Côr Meibion Dowlais, Cwmbach Male Voice Choir and De Cymru. He also plays the Organ at Beulah Baptist Church in Cilfynydd.

In 1984 he was awarded the Degree of M.A from the University of London. He has been a G.C.S.E music examiner and a tutor of the Mid Glamorgan Youth Choir.
