Meet The Singers

Jonathan is the Secretary for Con Voce. In 2001 he graduated from the University of Wales Bangor with B.Mus (Hons). He is currently Head Teacher at Ysgol Gymraeg Abercynon.

Nikki Hagerty

Nikki graduated from Bath Spa University College in 2005 with a B.A (Hons) in Music where he majored in Vocal Performance under the tuition of Rosa Mannion.

 

He currently works in the Merthyr Tydfil Borough as a Foundation Phase Classroom Teacher and is happy to be a part of Con Voce.

Carol Hier

Carol a qualified Reflexologist, she currently works from a clinic in Merthyr Tydfil specialising in Complementary and Holistic Therapies. No stranger to choral singing, Carol has sung in choirs since her youth.                                           
Her musical interests are wide ranging and she supports many and various amateur music making societies in the local community.

Helen Sweet - Jones

Helen graduated with B.A (Hons) in History from Swansea University.

Helen has been involved in a number of local choirs including Cyfarthfa Girls Choir, St David’s Church Choir and Cantorion Cyfarthfa.

 

She is currently a History Teacher in a Cardiff school.

Sopranos

Shelley studied Welsh and Film & Television at the University of Wales Aberystwyth.

She graduated in 2001 and in 2002 pursued a secondary welsh P.G.C.E.

Shelley has been a member of many choirs including   Côr Pantycelyn, Aberystwyth Choral Society, Four Countries Youth Choir and Mountain Ash Choral Society she also played the Violin with Cardiff Philharmonic and Rhondda Symphony Orchestras.

Shelley is currently teaching Welsh in Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Michele Davies

Michele has always had a passion for singing and has performed many times in local amateur dramatic productions with “The Colstars”.

 

Originally Michele hails from Merthyr Tydfil but now she lives in Aberdare and is Managing Director of her own business.

Following a career in Nursing, Lynley graduated in 2002 from the University of Wales, Cardiff with B.A (Hons) in Welsh and is currently Head Welsh Teacher at a comprehensive school in Rhondda Cynon Taff.

 

She has always enjoyed singing with various choirs and is thoroughly enjoying the variety of pieces in Con Voce’s repertoire.

 

 

Lynley Adams

Mark Hindley

Mark has been singing from an early age including solo spots in school choirs, more recently with a four part harmony group called The Rondellers and is also a current member of the Dowlais Male Choir,

He works as an Employment Liaison Officer for a training company in Merthyr Tydfil.

Catrin Hendy

In 1995 Catrin graduated from the University of Wales, Swansea with B.A (Hons) in Welsh and is currently a Welsh Teacher in Rhondda Cynon Taff. She has been singing for many years with numerous choirs including frequent solo items. Some of the highlights of her career include singing with such artists as Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans. 

 

Catrin is currently the Choir’s Treasurer.  

Matthew Jones

Matthew graduated from the University of London in 1995 with a B.A (Hons) degree in French.  After a successful career organising banking conferences around the world, Matthew returned to Wales and trained as a teacher in 2001.  He is currently Head of Modern Foreign Languages in a secondary school in Rhondda Cynon Taff. 

 

Matthew has always enjoyed singing in choirs both in Wales and London.

Ryan graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2006 with a B.A (Hons) in Music and returned to Cardiff to complete a PGCE from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 2007. Ryan currently works as a teacher in the South Wales area.  As well as singing with Con Voce, Ryan also plays Double Bass with Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra.  Ryan has been involved with many ensembles, including the UEA choir, UEA Symphony Orchestra, and Norwich Pops Orchestra. He has also worked with the likes of Sir Colin Davis of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Jirí Belohláhvek of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mark has always enjoyed singing and since childhood has sung in various choirs including The Richard Williams Singers and the Dowlais Male Choir.
Mark has also sung with the four part harmony group called the Rondellers.

Mark is a manager with a national energy supply company and is thrilled to be part of Con Voce.

Rebecca Southmore

Rebecca has been singing since the age of 6. She is a fluent Welsh speaker and went to Ysgol Santes Tudful and Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun. By the age of 16, Rebecca had gained her diploma in Musical Theatre Singing. Rebecca has sang as guest solo artist for Dowlais and Pontypridd male voice choirs, and has recently moved back home to Merthyr Tydfil after studying in Liverpool at The Liverpool Institute for Performing arts, graduating with B.A (Hons) Acting Performing Arts. Whilst she studied there, Rebecca was a member of The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir.

Craig Fletcher

Craig was born in Blackburn Lancashire and sang with the Lancashire youth choir during his school years where he also learned to play the recorder, cornet & clarinet. After leaving school, he went onto learn piano and moved to Wales in 1987 to study piano tuning & restoration near Caerphilly. After graduating in 1990, he then moved to Nottingham to study musical instrument electronics until 1992.
He returned to wales to begin a professional career as a piano tuner, working for a large music store in Cardiff, before going self-employed in 2000.
 
Craig decided to rediscover his original interest in music by joining Con Voce in 2008 and has enjoyed doing so ever since.
